Objective: Treat our bodies with respect and take care of
it.
Lesson ideas:
* We were spirits that
needed to have a body.
* The Lord gave me a temple, our own bodies, that we need to learn
how to take care of.
* Obtain proper sleep.
* Exercise: Both
physically, emotional, and mentally (think good thoughts)
1. Do your best on your exercise. You don’t have to compare your efforts with
anyone but yourself.
2. Try to walk with a godly walk and have godly
conversations
3. Bear up you head properly: Help your body look good and feel good. Pres.
Hinckley asked us to stand a little
taller. In other words be a little
better. Make small adjustment to improve our lives.
4. Make a growth chart at the
beginning of the year to see how tall you have grown through the year.
5. A journal could also be kept to
see the improvements on what you are working on, like, how many times you exercise
a week, your grades, sports activity, and talents etc.
6. People in scriptures that were strong and
healthy: Nephi, Brother of Jared, and Captain
Moroni.
7. Emotional care: Think of the good
things you can do. Serving helps with our emotional
needs. Listening to good uplifting music helps our emotions also.
*Eat good foods:
1. Go over the word of wisdom.
2. Daniel from the bible refused to eat the Kings
food (Daniel 1: 10-16).
3. Almost every diet plan suggest we eat a lot of
vegetables.
4. Avoid alcohol and tobacco and excessive sugar.
5.
Might also be a good time to see how your emergency preparedness kits
are, for we all need food to sustain
life.
* Keep our bodies
clean:
1. Well groomed with nice hair and
clean bodies.
2. Modest dress
3. Clean Mind
* Spiritual needs: We have a spirit that needs to be fed and kept
clean also with good thoughts and good deeds.
1. Cultivate an
attitude of optimism. Know that God is
watching over you, that he hears your prayers and will answer them, that he
love you and will make that love manifested.
2. Look for the good, virtuous, and
positive qualities.
a. Think positive about
ourselves to help our confidence and also be happy with whom
we are. Enjoy the sunlight in our lives.
b. Avoid: faultfinding, evil speaking of one another,
and sarcasm.
3. Churchill said: “Do not let us speak of darker days; let us
speak rather of sterner days. These are not dark days; these are
great days. The greatest days our
country has ever lived and we must
all thank God that we have been allowed, each of us according to our stations, to play a part in making these
days memorable in the history of our race.
4. Shakespeare: To thine own self be true (Hamlet) be true to your own convictions.
5. Clean
songs can chase away bad thoughts (Boyd K Packer New Era April 2008)
6.
Religious leaders: Remember sometimes we
need to go to our Priesthood leaders to help
with some of our repentance process matters.
7. Baptism: Before baptism we come with a broken heart and
a contrite spirit and witnessed unto the church that we have truly repented of
our sins. Then after our baptism we
partake of the sacrament and remember to repent to stay on course.
* Put on the armor of
God: (Ephesians 6: 11)
1. Whole armor (Repentance, study, prayer and a determination to serve God)
2. Breastplate of righteousness (Breast Plate protects vital organs;
righteousness in both thought and deed, protects the core of our spiritual
lives.)
3. Feet shod with the preparation of the gospel
of peace, (our feet
…represent our goals in life.
Preparedness is the way to victory)
4. Shield of
faith (quench the fiery darts of the wicked)
5. Helmet of
salvation (Focusing our
minds on Christ)
6. Sword of
God’s Spirit and His word through revelation.
7. Gird you loins with truth. Gird loin means to prepare for actions,
prepare to battle against evil by learning the truth through prayer and study.
a. Prepare yourself of
what to do if confronted with things you don’t want to do.
b. Protect ourselves by wearing seat-belts, being careful with sharp objects, crossing streets, etc.
c. Avoid: Filth on television, movies or songs.
d. Avoid: Pornography, drugs or immorality.
e. Avoid: Tattoos and earrings placed throughout your body.
* Be willing to work:
1. Can’t talk about this subject
without knowing the importance of work and being involved in good works.
Usually the difference between people who become Olympic athletes and those
that didn’t make it is the amount of effort and work they put into it. It’s
work that provides food, clothing and homes.
It is work that gives us a feeling of accomplishment. It is work that that helps with grades and
the training we receive.
2. Work at being smart, doing
homework, reading good books, and keeping up with current events.
Learn how to
control your finances, learn cooking and cleaning skills and be gentle in
speech.
3. Jesus in the temple at age twelve
shows us the Jesus had studied the scripture.
Scriptures:
Bible
1 Corinthians 7:34 holy
in body & spirit
Daniel 1: 5-8 refused
to eat king’s food
Ephesians 6:11 whole
armour of God
1 Corinthians 3:16 know
ye are the temple of God
LDS Scriptures
D&C 27:15-18 breast plate of righteousness
D&C 89 word of wisdom
13th Article of Faith: virtuous, lovely
Activities:
Exercise: Physically,
Emotionally, and Mentally
* Exercise: Choose something your
family likes (walk, bike ride, and trampoline) do alone or as a group.* Compete against self: See if you can do more sit-ups, a faster timed
run, etc.*
Balance a book on your head to help strengthen your neck to hold it up
properly.
*

help us stay active.
*
Circus: Think of all the things your
body can do at a circus. (Tumble, tight rope on the floor, go under a rope or over it. Stalk cups and then take them
down.
*
Volunteer to help at school, city project or church activities.
*
Do some exercise songs like Do as I’m Doing or Head Shoulders, Knees and Toes
or Do Your Ears Hang Low or Poky Bear.
* Play, “Duck, Duck, Goose)”: A group of players sit in a circle,
facing inward, while another player, the "picker" walks around
tapping or pointing to each player in turn, calling each a "duck” until
finally picking one to be a
"goose" The "goose" then rises and chases and tries to tag
the"picker", while
the "picker" tries to return to and sit where the "goose"
had been sitting. If the picker succeeds, the "goose" is now the new
picker and the process begins again. If the "goose" succeeds in
tagging the picker, the "goose" may return to sit in the previous
spot and the "picker" resumes the process
Spiritual:
* Balloon: Rub a blue balloon and
then stick it to the wall “Our Family is true blue”
* Have family tell things that help
our spirit be healthy too. (Prayer,
scriptures, doing kind things)
* Have a scripture or picture placed
on door each day to remind us to be Christ like today.
*
Put your hand into a glove to represent spirit inside our body.
* Pres. Hinckley said in Standing for Something, “Delight in
being clean. Relish the challenge of standing above and beyond the base trends
of the world. You will never regret it.”

see what time you go to bed and wake up. (Bears hibernate or sleep during the winter we sleep every
night. You might like to make a small
tent to be a bear den to take a nap. You could even talk about other
animal’s sleeping habits.)
