Lesson 3

JESUS IS THE FISHER OF MEN

Objective: To show ways both Jesus and ourselves can be fishers of men.
Visual aid: Fish

Lesson Ideas:
* Story of Jesus calling his disciples asking them to be fishers of men (Mark 1:17)
* Share missionary stories
* Fishing with a net gathers many.  Fishing with a fishing pole catches one at a time.  Both have their place.  There are many stories of Jesus talking to the multitudes which is like the net, but he also talked one on one like the woman at the well. Most of our missionaries now go into homes and teach either a person or one family at a time like the fishing pole.  We can also bear our testimony using social media on the internet (net).
* The youth of the church are encouraged to learn as much as possible about the gospel so they can be ready to share it on their missions.  As a family we can ask a child to teach a gospel related lesson or just practice giving talks to each other.
* Sometimes being a missionary starts in our own home.  Think of ways we can be a missionary at home.
* The story of Jonah and the whale:  The Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. Being in the great fish prepared Jonah to preach the gospel. (Jonah 1:17)
* The story of feeding the 5,000 with the five loaves of bread and two small fishes (John 6:9) also becomes a story of fishers of men for the multitude saw a miracle and wanted more.

Activities:
* Magnet fishing games:  using a paper clip attached to the top of a paper fish and a small pole with string and a small magnet on it, turns into a fun fishing game.
            Additional fish games
1. With a tub of water and plastic fish, use a net to catch the fish.
2. Pretend to fish.
3. Pretend to be a fish.
* Remember some of the things our Savior did to help others while here on earth
* Bunny, Bunny, how’s your neighbor?  I don’t know but I’ll go see. (Hop to a person in the circle and ask the question “Bunny, bunny how’s your neighbor, then that person says, I don’t know but I’ll go see.”  Do this till everyone has a turn.)
* Using q-tips and glue, glue fish to a paper that looks like water.
* To practice giving talks or lessons, you can use a toy microphone and a small pulpit to practice.
* Because the gospel is to be taught to the entire world, we can look at maps and become familiar where different countries are located.
* Jesus Name Game.  (Found in lesson one)
