Lesson 2
JESUS IS THE LIVING WATER
Objective: Just like water is essential for life to exist, so is Christ
our living water. Through his atonement we have been given the gift of eternal
life, helping us with our daily trials and also in the life to come.
Visual aid: Pitcher of water or
a small bottle of water.
Lesson ideas:
* Baptism: We are baptized in water. That ordinance brings us to Christ, the
living water.
* Story of the woman
at the well. “Sir thou hast nothing to
draw with and the well is deep. Jesus answered whosoever drinketh of this water
shall thirst again…but whosoever drinketh of the water I give shall never
thirst again.” (John 4: 11-14)
* Fill our cup: By reading scriptures, church magazines and
conference talks, our soul gets fed and our thirst gets quenched.
* Jesus is our spring
of living water to our thirsty souls. “The parched ground shall become a pool,
and the thirsty land shall be a spring of water.” (Isaiah
35: 6-7)
* Show a picture of
Jesus walking on water. The Savior was
able to walk on water and Peter believing in Jesus was also allowed to walk on
the water. As we look and believe in
Christ, he becomes our living water and we can do many worthwhile things with
his aid. (Matthew 14: 22-33)
* By keeping the
commandment we may know the mysteries of the kingdom and the same shall be in
him a well of living water springing up unto everlasting life (D&C 63:23).
Scriptures:
Bible
Revelation 21: 6 I
will give water of life freely
John 4:11 from whence
then hast living water
John 7:38 he that believeth on me…shall flow rivers of living water
LDS Scriptures
1 Nephi 11:25 led to the fountain of living
D&C 63:23 keepeth commandments...shall be a well of living water
2 Nephi 9:50 thirsteth, come to the waters
Activities:
* Obtain a bucket with
water and put objects that will float and objects that will sink. As we follow
Christ we will stay afloat.
* Water color: where possible copy a picture of Jesus to
water color.
* Spray water
bottles. Sing rain is falling all
around. (God gave us rain)
* Little pitchers or
little water bottles could be given out as a reminder of where we get our
source of living water.
* Play a thinking game: Think of as many places that you can find
water like; clouds, rivers, streams, bath tubs, sinks, oceans, etc. The one with the most places without
repeating someone else’s word wins the game.
* Who can name the
well where the woman at the well took place? (John 4: 6)
* Have a contest with
a big bowl of water and a small cup.
Give two players each a small cup and table spoon the same size and from
the big bowl of water, fill up the small cup.
See who can fill their cup up first.
* Some words
associated with the living water are: wells, fountains, pools, thirst, rivers,
and drink. See if you can come up with a
story using some of these words. Have one person start the story and after that
person has had a turn the next person continues the story using another water
word until everyone that wants a turn has one.
* Jesus Name Game.

Saw an idea with paper boats that would go nice with this lesson (Jesus is the living water). The boats could be placed in a tub of water or float down a small stream to represent the boat Peter was in.
