Lesson 14

JESUS IS OUR SAVIOR

Objective: To better understand that Jesus was the only one capable of making an atonement for mankind.
Visual aid: A lamb to represent Jesus, for He is the Lamb of God

Lesson ideas:
* Jesus was foreordained in the Grand Council before the world was to be our Savior.   He made a perfect atonement for all mankind.  All are covered unconditionally as pertaining to the fall of Adam. Hence, all shall rise from the dead with immortal bodies, because of Jesus’ atonement.  For as Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. (1 Cor. 15:22)
* Atonement:  Jesus took upon himself the sins of the world he literally bleed and died for us. Bible Dictionary: “Jesus Christ, as the Only Begotten son of God and the only sinless person to live on this earth, was the only one capable of making the atonement for mankind”
* No other name given among man whereby we can be saved. (Act 4:12)
* Our bodies will all be resurrected because of the atonement unconditionally.  However, if we want to live in the same kingdom as Christ we need to repent; to seek forgiveness of the things we did wrong.  Sometimes that means restoring something we took, or paying back.  Sometimes we need to go to a priesthood leader to obtain the forgiveness we desire.
* Jesus asked us to remember him.  He gave us the sacrament so that we can remember him every week; he gave his body and his blood for us.  The sacrament hymns remind us of the sacrifice Jesus did for each one of us. Let’s work harder to remember him, especially during sacrament.
* After Jesus was resurrected he came to the America’s and showed himself to the people there.  He let everyone touch his hands to feel the nail prints.  How sacred the sacrament must have been for those people who actually touched his wounds.
* Christ would want us to forgive:  When Christ was being crucified he taught the law of forgiveness. He wants us to change our hearts to become more like him and have peace in our lives.  (Luke 23: 34)
* Firemen and policemen are people who come to the rescue to help us.  Our Savior is the best rescuer there is because he came to our eternal rescue.

Scriptures:
Bible
John 10:15 I lay down my life for the sheep
John 11:25 I am the resurrection and the life
John 17:4 I have finished the work
John 1:29 Lamb of God which taketh away

LDS Scriptures
3 Nephi 11:14 Thrust your hands into into my side
Helaman 14:15 die … salvation may come
Moses 5:15 believed…repented… saved

Activities:
* Make a list of things Jesus taught that you would like to put into your lifve.
* Umbrella: Umbrellas are good for keeping the rain from falling on us but if we don’t use it the umbrella loses its value.  The same is true with the atonement.  If we don’t use it and repent the atonement doesn't help us.
* Put food coloring in water to represent our sins.  Then add bleach to the water to make the water appear clear like repentance makes things clean again.
* Play fireman or policeman coming to our rescue but show a picture of Jesus being our best rescuer.
* Glove:  Bring out a glove and put it on.  This can represent Christ while here on earth. He died for us as part of the atonement.  Take off the glove and see it motionless. Then put the glove back on.  This shows that Christ was resurrected which made it possible for us to be resurrected also.
* Jesus would like us to:
1. Trust him: Play a few trust games like trust me to lead you around the house blind folded.
2. Learn of him: and have a few scriptures on the wall to learn of Jesus.
3. Follow him: Have a few foot prints on the floor to follow him.  The footprints might     lead to a picture of a baptismal font or a picture of a temple.
* Mirror:  Show a picture of Jesus.  See it in the mirror.  See the mirror and ask if you can see yourself as Jesus would like us to be.
* Wood:  Hand out a smooth piece of wood and ask yourself, “What would (wood) Jesus do?” when you are faced with a question.
* Play detective:  Find out who became the Savior, what did he do, when did he do it, how did he do it.

Detective:  Pick a name from the scriptures like Abinidi and have everyone but one person know who the group picked.  The one person who didn’t know the name asks everyone questions about that person until he figures out who scripture person is.
