Lesson 6
JESUS IS MY ROCK AND MY
SALVATION
Objective: Jesus is the
foundation on which we build our life and by following Jesus we can earn the
richest blessing of Salvation and eternal life
Visual aid: Rock
Lesson ideas:
* Building a strong
and firm testimony of Jesus Christ is another way of letting Jesus be our rock.
* Rocks symbolize fortresses:
strong, sturdy, and secure.
* Christ is our
foundation. When building a building the foundation needs to be sturdy. When we
have Christ as our foundation we also are making our life here on earth strong,
keeping us worthy to go back to Christ.
* Fable: The story of, “The Three Pigs”, is a simple
way of showing how building our homes on a sure foundation makes it strong and when
the winds blow our houses stay strong.
* We each have trials,
but with Christ as our strength we can make it through those trials.
* God is powerful: Priesthood power.
1. The multitude went forth with their sick, affected,
lame and blind and Jesus healed them.
(3 Nephi 17:9)
2. He has given the priesthood to worthy
men. Through Alma, Korihor is struck dumb. (Alma 30: 50)
3. Elijah brings down fire. (1 Kings 18: 38)
4. Moses parts the Red Sea. (Exodus 14: 21)
5. Daniel is saved in the lion’s den (Daniel
6:16)
* Stones – Some of the
stones we use in the gospel are; Key
Stone, Corner Stone
and Cap Stone. The Keystone is the Book of Mormon (Joseph
Smith Nov. 28 1841.) “I told the
brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth and
the keystone of our religion.” Chief Corner stone of our religion is Christ.
(Ephesians 2:20) The Cap Stone is the
Doctrine and Covenants. On April 6, 1892, President Wilford Woodruff pressed an
electric button and the capstone was lowered into place on the Salt Lake Temple.
* Mountains are big
and strong. The Salt Lake Valley has
mountains that surround the valley giving it strength and protection. Jesus gives us that assurance of strength and
protection.
* For our protection
we are asked to “Stand ye in holy places and be not moved.” (D&C 87: 8)
Scriptures:
Bible
Deuteronomy 32:4 He is
the Rock
1 Samuel 2:2 neither
is there any rock like God
2 Sam 22:2 Lord is my
Rock
2 Sam 23:3 rock of
Israel spake to me
LDS Scriptures
Helaman 5:12 the rock of our Redeemer
3 Nephi 11:39 buildeth upon my rock
3 Nephi 14:24 built house upon rock
3 Nephi 18:12 bless… built upon my rock
Activities:
* Make a pet rock. Paint or decorate your rock. When you see your pet rock, it will remind
you of Jesus being your rock and your salvation.
* Place stepping
stones down for children to walk on (Keeping our feet on the sure foundation of
Christ)
* Clay can be molded
into an object, maybe even a rock. After
it dries it becomes hard like stone. (If fired it can be a lasting memory)
* See a house being built
with a firm foundation.
* Fable of the three
little pigs – sure foundation stood even against strong winds. Color a picture
of the three homes in this fable.
* Collect rocks like marble,
granite, limestone, shale, slate or just rocks from your own back yard.
(Granite is considered one of the strongest stones and the Salt Lake Temple is
built with Granite.)
* Jesus Name Game. (Found
in Lesson 0ne)
* Play Rock, Paper,
Scissors.
Rock, Paper,
Scissors: Two people play this
together. At the same time have one of
your hands in cupping shape
and the other hand in a fist. Hit your
hands three times; at the end of the
third hit make a rock sign with a closed fist, or a paper sign with a flat hand
or a scissor sign with two
fingers. The rock gets to hit the
scissor sign because a rock can smash
the scissors. The paper gets to hit the rock because paper can wrap up a rock, and the scissors get to hit the
paper because it can cut the paper.
